Toxic wastes and kidney disease: research needs.
In 1981 over one billion dollars will be spent sustaining the lives of patients with end-stage renal disease by hemodialysis and renal transplantation, but less than 0.02% of this amount will be invested in studies of nephrotoxicity (1). Any knowledge of the effect of industrial waste on human kidney disease gained from this miniscule effort will probably be serendipitous. Our monumental ignora...
متن کاملChemical Treatment Options for Pesticide Wastes Disposal
The development of chemical means of detoxification of pesticide wastes and spills is an increasingly important endeavor for the pesticide industry. The objective of this paper is to review some of the chemical degradation methods for pesticide decontamination that exist today. I n presenting each method, less emphasis has been put on technical detail of the method and more emphasis has been pu...
متن کاملChemical Recycling of Poly Ethylene Terephthalate Wastes
Chemical recycling of Polyethylene terephthalate, PET, wastage has been investigated in this study. The aim of this work is recovery of terephthalic acid and ethylene glycols from PET waste. This process has been done in two stages. At the first stage, reaction between PET waste and sodium hydroxide for production of ethylene glycol and sodium terephthalate solution carried out in a stainless s...
متن کاملDetection of industrial pollutants and toxic chemical wastes in sewage treatment plant influents by use of a biological monitor.
Heterogeneous mixtures of toxic chemical wastes affecting the normal operations of a sewage treatment facility employing anaerobic digestion were detected by dark-field observation of uncoordinate flagellar orientation patterns displayed by cells of Spirillum volutans. These results were compared with plant parameters determined by gas production, volatile fatty acids, and alkalinity measurements.
متن کاملChemical durability of glasses obtained by vitrification of industrial wastes.
The vitrification of zinc-hydrometallurgy wastes, electric arc furnace dust (EAFD), drainage mud, and granite mud was shown to immobilize the hazardous components in these wastes. Batch compositions were prepared by mixing the wastes with glass-cullet and sand to force the final glass composition into the glass forming region of the SiO2-Fe2O3-(CaO, MgO) system. The vitrification was carried ou...
